After completing the module, complete a literature search for a current nursing article which presents information on the use of this particular caring-healing practice with older persons (published in the last 5 years).

  • After choosing the article, write a 4 page reflective paper by considering the following questions:
  • What is the purpose or intent of the module and article and the author’s main ideas or arguments? (brief)
  • What critique and/or reflection would you make of the module and the author’s points considering your own experience and knowing and the learning you gained from the module on this topic?
  • How does the article and module inform your own understanding of caring nursing practice with older persons?

Note connections in relation to Barrett’s Power as Knowing Participation and CAREE Process (O’Brien-Lewis). Complete a reflective, creative, authentic aesthetic which includes the meaning of aesthetic in relation to the lived experience of this older person and what this means for your own caring nursing practice with power as knowing participation in change and CAREE Process. Include the actual current nursing article that you used for this learning evidence (in appendix of your paper).

Note: Papers must be submitted via moodle and turn-it-in and you must also give a hard copy to the Course Director on the date that it is due (no late papers accepted – see York policy). Papers will not be returned so please keep a copy of your paper. Scholarly Paper Writing Evaluation Criteria (see rubric in course outline as well): Substance: paper shows the pattern of the whole with authentic, creative, reflective knowing for each criteria and integration of meaning for your caring nursing praxis using CAREE Process and Barrett’s Power as Knowing Participation in Change theory. Paper includes copy of current nursing article that you used for this learning evidence.

Clarity: logical flow of ideas; precise use of language; grammatically correct sentences; overall coherence and meets APA format; Communication of information and ideas through use of language, symbols and visual images Originality: each student completes a reflective, creative, authentic aesthetic which includes the meaning of aesthetic in relation to the lived experience of this older person and what this means for your own caring nursing praxis with power as knowing participation in change and CAREE Process. Presentation (10%) (Week 11 and 12 – section M March 21 and 28 and section N March 23 and 30) The purpose of this 10 minute presentation is to share one key learning for caring nursing practice with older persons. You will share this with the class by presenting your aesthetic with meaning for your caring human science nursing practice along with one brief experiential activity which involves the class and is related to the module or paper you have reviewed.
